What does it mean to be a flight volunteer
You literally change the life of the animal you take with you forever. You make sure the dog or cat unites with the people who prepared their home for it, with the best animal beds, soft blankets, delicious treats, lots of love and numerous toys. By flying a dog or cat home, you also create a free spot for another animal in need back in the shelter. Many rescue organizations can only help so many animals as they have free space. By flying an animal to their new home, you help the organization rescue another animal that can take his- or her place.
What to expect on the actual flight?
- You meet the contact person of the shelter- or organization at the airport of your departure. Here you also get to meet the animals in their transport crates. Yay!
- The shelter- or organization will check-in the animals for you at the desk where you also check-in your own baggage. Wave goodbye, because you won't see the animal again until after landing.
- When you've landed, you head to the baggage claim area or 'oversized baggage' counter. Your travel-buddy will be dropped off by the airport personal, waiting for you to be picked up. No worries, they will have your name on the crate, so nothing can get mixed up.
- You just pick up the animals' crate and head to the exit. The adopters will be waiting for you and their new family member at the arrival hall. Probably with a big smile and happy tears in their eyes. You now have successfully helped an animal get home. Well done!
